Don't be afraid of starting a new paragraph! These were the longest, most rambling paragraphs I've ever read in a professionally published book. It was really hard to focus on what was happening when it just kept going on and on, line after line.

The main character is mute after her father leaves their family. Interesting in premise, but wow, was there a lot of introspection about every single thing that happened. It was unnecessarily thorough examination.

The setting was well described. It was easy to picture the events. The characters were a little lacking in depth. And the perspectives were...odd. Half of the book was told in first person from the perspective of the witch. The other half was told in an omniscient third person perspective from her husband. It was difficult to settle into.
