The Heart's Invisible Furies by John Boyne

5.0

I just adored this story and seeing Cyril evolve during his life as a gay man. I don't want to give too much away, but from the beginning I wanted the story to unfold differently than it did. However, I loved the journey Boyne took the reader on and how realistic, heartbreaking, and humorous life truly is. When we are visit Cyril every seven years, the visit is long enough to immerse ourselves in Cyril's current state and circumstances.

I am so glad I finally picked this one up!

A minor quibble is that I rolled my eyes at Mary-Margaret's last scene. It was a little too over the top for me. It was so minor given the rest of the novel that I'm not deducting anything for it, but I do want it to go on record. ;)
