Jamaica Inn by Daphne du Maurier
3.0

I picked up Jamaica Inn because Daphne du Maurier's book Rebecca is one my favorite books of all time. Unfortunately Jamaica Inn doesn't live up to its more popular sister. It's a gothic novel with some extremely dark themes including abuse and murder. Mary Yellan moves in with her aunt Patience and evil uncle Joss Merlyn at the Jamaica Inn. Mary meets several people during her stay, including Joss's friendlier brother Jem and the Vicar of Altarnun. I enjoyed Jem's character. He's such a sweetheart. Otherwise, I didn't really care much for the plot. I found myself nodding off sometimes while reading.
