The Buried Giant by Kazuo Ishiguro

5.0

In a post-Arthurian Britain, when the Saxons and Britons have ceased fighting, Axl and Beatrice set out on a journey to travel to where their son is. A weird mist hovers over the land, a mist of forgetfulness; memories are hard to come by. Axl and Beatrice hardly remember anything about their son, including why he left. As they set out on their journey, they encounter a number of different people along the way. They face trials and hardship. Memories begin to flash briefly here and there. And they discover the source of the mass amnesia. Can memories be restored? Do they *want* memories to be restored?

This book is incredible! It’s inventive, full of symbolism, layered, and multi-faceted. In my opinion, this book needs multiple readings. I briefly looked up just a bit about themes and symbols in this book whilst avoiding spoilers. So I knew to tab certain things. This I am glad I did because it really enhanced the reading of the book. I know that when I re-read it, I will be able to read it on an even deeper level.

This book definitely made it onto my favorite reads list!
