The Midnight Feast by Lucy Foley

3.0

Foley has a gift for writing the most unlikeable wealthy characters, but also atmospheric settings. With shifting timelines and perspectives, I found it hard to stay engaged as the pacing starts quite slow and each chapter, sometimes only a page long, reveals very little. However, as it hurtles to the murderous, fiery conclusion, I did get slightly more interested. I found the ending karmically satisfying if overdramatic
Spoiler as Bella and Jake reunited and unburied their past guilt, Owen discovered his wife killed his mother, and Francesca runs off the road high after being spooked by the costumed Eddie after burning down the house herself with her rapey brothers inside. Love vigilante justice orchestrated by old women.
I think this would be an entertaining miniseries but it was a middling mystery book.
