Poor Things by Alasdair Gray

5.0

Absolutely brilliant book! Would recommend anyone to read this.

It deals with all sorts of issues such as colonialism, feminism, sexuality, gender roles and reversals, war, relationships, class systems and much more. It has clear links to Shelley's Frankenstein and other significant novels. It makes you question the world around you, history and even the reliability of the narrator. It's character descriptions and developments are fascinating, insightful, horrifying and at times absolutely hilarious. Throughout there are beautiful illustrations and the textuality of the novel is beautiful and brilliant.

At the end, you still do not quite know what is truth and what is fabricated. Fascinating and brilliant to pull apart and analyse.

If you are thinking about reading this please do! Wish more people had.
