Dream Work by Mary Oliver

4.5

This collection solidified Mary Oliver as my favorite poet.
Nature writing, especially in poetry, isn't hard to find. But Oliver has an unique way of inserting the human experience as part of nature, a way that doesn't condemn it. Humans and human life are written as piece of the infinite cicle of life, decadence is looked at in a way I haven't seen other poets capture it.
Mary Oliver knew pain in her lifetime, but she didn't write for it. She saw the death of many poets and friends, and though she wrote about death, she never wrote for it. Mary Oliver wrote for life, for happiness, for hope.
Not only is her work poetry, her whole being seems to have been.
