The Black Panther Party: A Graphic Novel History by David F. Walker

challenging emotional informative reflective medium-paced

5.0

It feels odd to say that I enjoyed this, given the subject matter and how emotional it all makes me. But this is everything you would want in a graphic novel about the Black Panthers, and even things you might not expect.

The illustrations are beautiful, and the story is laid out really well. I appreciated the history lesson at the start to provide context for all that was to come. The afterword broke me and echoed so much of what I had been thinking and feeling throughout: not much has changed. And that’s deeply sad, but we keep hoping and praying and fighting anyway.
