This Time Will Be Different by Misa Sugiura

I was completely on board with C.J. as she uncovers her passion (floral design and symbolism in the
Ichiban tradition) and self-actualizes in her family of strong women.

**SPOILERS**

We also get a heavy and important dose of American history here that includes Japanese-American internment in California. I loved how the author uses C.J. past pregnancy as her motivation to be less than ambitious and her passion for the issue of renaming the high school to move forward. In the love department, we see some nice representation of LGBTQIA+ issues and an unfortunately trope-y #winner white girl. We see C.J.'s ambivalence in love and her ultimate predictable romance. There's a lot going on here and it mostly works. I was a little disappointed with the ending. After we see C.J. present in front of the city council and confront McAllister, we don't get to find out what happens with the name of the high school?
