Red Dust Road
by Jackie Kay
This was such a warmly written book, even though I've not read any other book by Jackie Kay before, her personality still shone through so well. It was definitely an autobiographical journey rather than a straight autobiography; I was expecting the format to be a bit more linear so the fact that it jumped around a lot was a little bit confusing. This didn't really detract much from the overall book though. Some stand out chapters for me came towards the end, such as Reality Britain and Glasgow Royal Infirmary. Overall, this was a really well-written book, full of important insights. I learnt a lot about Jackie's experiences of being mixed race and adopted and will definitely be looking out for her other books in future.
