I went into this completely blind because I just needed to start something mid-long-distance-car-journey - what a pleasant surprise! Complex but likeable characters, all really diverse without feeling 'token', and I did really care about what happened to them. The story was well paced for the most part, I really enjoyed the change in timeline/POV, although I did find the finale to be a bit long. The horror elements were really giving Doctor Sleep vibes, so the odd gratuitously violent scene that is included did kind of feel out of place, but overall a really refreshing take for a modern hororr book. I will definitely be reading more Malfi!
