Last to Die by Tess Gerritsen

3.0

Tess Gerritsen knows how to write a taut thriller and Jane Rizzoli and Maura Isles remain interesting, dynamic women, but "Last to Die" is not my favorite in the series. Like "Ice Cold," much of the plot of "Last to Die" takes place outside of Boston, which for me starts to stretch the credibility of the events--how is Maura always in the wrong place at the wrong time. I appreciated the book's return to Jane and Maura's friendship, but was disappointed that Jane has been relegated a little to the side while Maura deals with heavy emotional baggage. Don't get me wrong, I love Maura Isles and find her utterly fascinating while still being relatable. I just wish Jane had a chance to show some of spunk we've come to know and love her for.
