Not as gruesome as marketed, this dark romance gets a mild recommendation from me. It has gore and some incredibly violent moments, but I think readers can stomach it. It's not on a Stephen King level of gore.
The spice is lovely and you'll get your money's worth.
The cons that I have is that it reads young like it forgets that it's aimed at adults, not the YA market, and that it takes a bit of time to get moving. I changed to an audiobook to finish this book because, at times, it felt too slow for my taste. When I did, I had a better experience.
I'm on the fence about continuing the series, though, even the epilogue sets up an interesting premise.
