fauxvais 's review for:
On the Jellicoe Road
by Melina Marchetta
I never properly reread this ever since I read it for the first time as a teenager, so that was interesting. For example, I either didn't comprehend or completely blacked out that Taylor was a rape victim as a child. I also think I Mandela effected Ben being a more integral member of the main friend group.. He was cute, but largely secondary. That aside, I think my only issue is that a lot of Marchetta's neo-liberalism shown through and it was at times irritating.. but it obviously wasn't relevant at all to the plot, so I could tolerate it. Overall, this is still as gut wrenching, if not more, as the first time I read it. Love!
