This book punched me right in the heart several times and then made me unbelievably happy.
One thing is absolutely certain when reading a Tal Bauer novel... I will cry. How to Say I Do was no different. There was a good part when I needed to take breaks from reading because I was so overwhelmed with emotions.
This book is an unlikely love story. One that starts between the clouds, then plummets down to a ravine and needs to climb out sweating and in tears to have another chance at a happy ever after.
It's unlikely because Wyatt meets Noël at an airport bar. Noël almost shattered to pieces after being left at the altar. And it turns out they're going to the same place in Cancun. Their meeting is unlikely. Their instant connection is unlikely, yet here it is.
They start between the clouds because separated from the real world in a hidden little oasis in Mexico, they find a happiness neither of them felt before. It seems unreal as a reader, but it's also powerful and beautifully written.
Of course, paradise cannot last forever, and the real world crashes in, taking hope and happiness away. I never, ever felt so much reading a book. The author managed to capture the essence of loneliness and the utter hopelessness of being left enough times to not believe in anything to last.
I feared for Wyatt to be hurt from the first page as he's way too kind and loving for the real world. But I should've seen Noël's broken pieces, too. His fears, his loneliness, and his hopelessness hit so hard that I was sobbing through a good chunk of this book. I don't know how words on paper can be so brutally honest and heartbreaking. If you've felt loneliness in your life, this is gonna be a hard read.
Wyatt's grief and legacy were the other big punch to the gut. His struggles were more internal, and his will to compensate for his broken pieces with love was a heartwrenching experience to see.
All the pieces of this book were unbelievable! I felt so much while reading! I felt joy, I felt sorrow, I felt devastation, I felt love, and I felt hope.
There are so many things to say and feel about this book! It just hits differently. A love story full of hope! I cannot stress enough how utterly all-consuming this reading experience was!
Just read it!
