Leaving Home by Melinda Brasher
5.0
20 flash fiction and short stories and I'm going to leave notes for each one. Here goes:
1) Paranoia (finished 3/13/21): I can tell this book is gonna be good! loved it!
2) On the Train to Warsaw (finished 3/13/21): another amazing story! The constant change in POV and how a new one picked up where the previous one left off reminded me of my book, 24 Hour Lockdown. A lot of good life lessons such as a little bit of kindness goes a long way and never judge because you never know what someone else is going through.
3) Bidding 4 spades in Poland (finished 3/13/21): as a fellow card player, I enjoyed this story immensely. It's literally a quick story about an American tourist in Poland who is invited to play bridge. Simple, easy and enjoyable.
4) The Hunt (finished 3/13/21): Awww!! Thought this was sweet.
5) Summer Storm (finished 3/13/21): its 3:30 am but I can NOT bring myself to put this book down. This author has some serious talent for captivating her audience within the first sentence and holding them till the end. Despite the short length, the character's personality and emotions all shine through.
6) Czech Tramping (finished 3/13/21): the authors love and passion for travel and Czech flows from the pages.
7) Puny Alex (finished 3/13/21): my first complaint. I need more of this story. If drawn out further it could be an entire book on its own. I'm always up for a pirate story. For the great plot, it was disappointingly short.
8) Eyewitness (finished 3/13/21): Lol! Too funny and clever. One of my favorites.
9) Ethereal (finished 3/13/21): Woah. Of all the Cinderella retellings, never read anything like this. Loved the originality and creativity.
10) Perfect (finished 3/13/21): Poor Rose. :(
11) Fireangel (finished 3/13/21): what can I say? The internet is a creepy place. The formatting was kinda hard to follow and had to read it a few times.
12) The language of dance (finished 3/13/21): the title is self-explanatory. Another account of the author's experience in Czech republic. Interesting perspective.
13) Not Guilty (finished 3/13/21): this was kinda sad...
14) The Tower (finished 3/13/21): the story of Rapunzel told in poetry form. Interesting.
15) Field Study (finished 3/13/21): Wow. A mermaid story like I've never read before.
16) Red Wednesday (finished 3/13/21): ohhh, creepy stalker story! This one can give you chills!
17) Requiem for a lost towel (finished 3/13/21): ok, that's it. I'm going to read more from this author. She just made me sad about a lost towel. A TOWEL, folks! A lousy piece of fabric used to dry. You don't get sentimental over a towel but I seriously just did.
18) Leaving Home (finished 3/13/21): Well THAT was depressing! Didn't even see it coming.
19) The bus to Lubin (finished 3/13/21): I really appreciate the humor the author included among all the chaos the main character went through. Too bad it didn't have a happy ending.
20) Tikal Sunrise (finished 3/13/21): what a beautiful ending to the book! Loved the immersive descriptions!
As you can see, there wasn't a story I didn't like and I finished this in one setting because it was impossible to put down. Can't recommend this enough! If I could give it more stars I would. Thanks you for such an unexpected, enjoyable read!
