Unteachable
by Elliot Wake
Ahh, it's 1:47AM, I've got to stop doing this.
Elliot Wake's writing is beautiful. That's a well known fact. He has a way with words that I haven't seem in any other author out there. That already makes this book worth reading because it's just so readable while poetic as heck.
As a feminist, I like how this book looks. You've got this woman who's entirely in control of her sexuality. She's not being used, she's making choices and her beauty is hers. You can be sexual and a feminist.
I also loved how cinema looked. It's clear the author has done some research and Maise's passion for it was done well.
Nevertheless, it's hard for me to find more positive things. I wasn't really rooting for the romance and when you don't root for the romance in a book like this, you lose something essential. I didn't feel like I knew Evan or cared about him. There was too much sexual stuff and not enough character development.
Additionally, the plot didn't compel me as much as it could have. Sure, it was interesting but no more. I want to know more about Hayim, more connections within the storyline, more depth, more themes interconnecting, just more. I know Elliot Wake can do better than this.
what I'm taking with me:
• where are the older woman/young man relationships at?
• Wesley was pretty much me so I respect that. I could totally fuck up like that and slide by somehow.
• Fuck, I don't want to grow up.
