I didn't know what this would be either. Read for the Realm of Comics book club. Another graphic horror where the horror is man itself. I think the characters could have been more but  not knowing much about them helped build the overall feeling of confusion and low grade tension. You're just bumbling along with them but with less info. We don't know what they have been ignoring or what their families and neighbors have been ignoring. They do confusing things because we don't know their motivations. So I guess this is also not told linearly some of the time.

Once again I did not love the artwork, the pesky black lines that I can't stand. But once again the art being so heavily black, but also somehow feeling unfinished, lent itself to the chilling atmosphere. It's gritty and dirty and tired which says mining town to me. I was not expecting the reasoning, the explanation towards the end at all. But boy did it all make sense. Good storytelling between the text and the artwork.
