I loved China Beach in the late ‘80’s-early 90’s. I learned a lot out nurses in war and Vietnam. It was an incredible show. This book reminded me of China Beach but lacked the oomph, the heaviness, the true catastrophe of war. It didn’t delve deep. Frankie was a bit boring. I wanted more. Much more. I could see what was coming so much of the time, there was not a lot of excitement.
I know everybody loves this book but I think it was a bland love story during war.
