Thoroughly enjoyable! This was my introduction to Cassandra Clare. Her writing style is straightforward and clear, but engaging. The "magic" system wasn't explored in depth, but the aspects that were explained I found very interesting. Hopefully, we'll get more details in the next books. I really enjoyed the concept of nephilim warriors protecting the world against evil, demonic forces. Not really "canon" to what nephilim were said to be, but certainly an interesting take! I also really liked Tessa Gray. She has a good balance of girlish innocence but is also badass and doesn't shy away from a confrontation or defending herself. There was a plot twist close to the end of the book that I actually didn't see coming and that really piqued my interest for the second book!
