Mark Twain by Ron Chernow

challenging emotional informative lighthearted sad medium-paced

4.5

This book is a biography of an amazing American character.  He was world-renown and very talented but had serious medical problems and family issues as well as financial woes.  It was a good read but too long.  The last third/half of the book could have been edited down by several hundred pages.  Every detail of his troubled 7 year relationship with his secretary Lyon is excruciating and sad.  And his relationships with young teenaged girls (angelfish) is also a disturbing diversion.  Fascinating nonetheless.
