The concept of the book was interesting. But the book itself was a little bleh.
Alessandra plan was to
Alessandra plan was to
- Woo the Shadow King
- Marry him
- Kill him and take the throne.
You can probably already guess what happened instead. And it didn`t sit right with me how the time-space through the book was only 2 months.
Now there were things I actually like about the book.
Now there were things I actually like about the book.
- Side characters that were part of the LGBTQ community
- Women in high positions, like part of the king council without having to be married into it.
- The discussion on not shaming women for not being a virgin before the wedding. And allowed to have lovers. And there were ways to prevent pregnancy.
- Politicals matters were being discussed and finding solutions to problems the country was facing. (That is not just an easy fix. But plans that would take time and patient.)
- And of course Demodocus the dog.
It's a fast read. A typical YA book. Do think this was more directed to younger audiences around 13-15 years old, rather than to me that is 21 years old.
Would I recommend this? Not likely, but maybe to someone that is around 13-15 years old, or if someone wished for an easy and fast read.
