Girl, Woman, Other
by Bernardine Evaristo
It was almost 20 years ago that I read Zadie Smith‘s „White Teeth“ and it left a huge impression. In many ways, this feels like a spiritual successor, even though it is a very different book. But the multifacetedness and the lightness of touch are similar, enclosing in it a look at all of Britain that is vibrant and hopeful while not shying away from the darker aspects of the country‘s history. What a triumph! I enjoyed reading this so so much.
