Love & Misadventure by Lang Leav

5.0

Lang Leav manages to speak directly from my heart. Some feelings I did not yet understand that I had, or that it was possible to have, are perfectly articulated in her concise poems. In Part 1: Misadventures, this was especially true for me. It was a very personal experience. I realised the true nature of all my 'misadventures' and the beauty of her writing moved me by her own emotion but allowed me to reflect on my own experiences. The other parts of the book do not especially mirror any experiences that I have personally experienced before but I know for many they will. Despite this, I loved reading these poems too because they were so delicately written but powerfully filled with true emotion.

I understand that there are people who do not like this book. Many find this poetry too simple and too 'plain' to be considered proper poetry. This may not be a work of metaphorical genius with deep, creative image-play but it is accessible. Not everyone likes or understands very serious poetry. What Leav manages to do is offer something that everyone can relate to and enjoy. Sometimes poetry just needs to make people feel something and this does just that. The book is still peppered with many small, but perfectly adequate, metaphors which help express Leav's feelings wonderfully.
