Golden Son by Pierce Brown

5.0

Very rarely is the sequel better than the original, but WOW is that the case for Red Rising! I found the first book tedious, because despite being a space-age war drama, it focused largely on a land battle too derivative of Hunger Games. But Golden Son rips free of any constraints or similarities to other works! The space setting matters to the physics of battle, the plot and relationships are rife with intrigue and betrayal, the messages about friendship overcoming racism and tyranny are SO poignant... I was hyperventilating reading this book. It's exciting, it's moving, it's creative, and it's timeless. Applause to Pierce Brown, cannot wait to read the next book.
