Getting Things Done: The Art of Stress-Free Productivity
by David Allen
informative
inspiring
reflective
fast-paced
Perhaps the best productivity book I’ve read. The concepts described have a level of clarity to them that makes their benefit self-evident, to the point that I began implementing Allen’s suggestions as I went through the book. I’m very close to a full implementation of what he advises (I bought a filing cabinet because of this book, and my desktop has remained clean ever since because of it).
GTD is thorough enough to be helpful on a precise level, but broad enough that everyone is empowered to implement GTD in his own way without feeling overly constrained to a particular system or way of thinking/operating. That may not be the opinion of everyone who reads this book, but I have been thoroughly encouraged in my own ability to get things done, just by having a well-designed system provided to me. I have yet to see if this is just a fad in my life or if it’ll stick, but I’m very hopeful and optimistic about its success.
If you want to be more productive, but have difficulty envisioning how to go about doing so, this is an excellent book to get started. My productivity has already had a significant boost, and while I’m still working on proper implementation, my mind is already at ease about several of my life obligations.
4.5 stars for now. I’ll come back to this some time later, and if the methodology has stuck, I’ll change it to 5 stars.
