The Bone Houses by Emily Lloyd-Jones
5.0

I'm not sure what is was about this book that absolutely captivated me. I honestly believe it is because I found it so refreshing. I don't think that I can accurately describe what this book did to me other than leave me desperate for more.
I love retellings. Fairy tale, myths and more. I LIVE for it. So when this book popped up on a recommended list when I was perusing audible I decided to take a chance and buy it. To be honest I am absolutely delighted in the fact that I took a chance on this book. It got me through the most boring work day ever and continued to enthrall me as I came home from work and say in my car continuing to listen.
After I had finished the audiobook I decided that I was more than willing to invest in buying the book because I must have it. Then I found out that there was a signed copy through Owlcrate and promptly bought that.
There is so much about this book that I really enjoyed and it's actually hard for me to put to words because I suck at writing reviews.
I don't believe that I could remark on how the book was written ,or things like that, but I was so invested in knowing what happened next that I couldn't stop listening to it. It was definitely refreshing because I hadn't heard anything like this and I was very intrigued to see how it would compare to my predictions. I don't want to say that it was predictable but I did call it.Again, it was still something that I hadn't really seen much of ever and I was absolutely in love with the stupid goat.
One thing I love in particular was that the main character loved her family and was determined to anything that she possibly could to make sure that they were safe. This isn't something that I normally look for in books. It's not something that you would really think to look for, at least not I, but there was it was just something wonderful to read about this strong-willed, determined character and how she would fight to the ends of the Earth into the great unknown, or what have you, to ensure that her family was safe. Maybe I relate to that and that is why I find this wonderful to read.
I am grateful for finding this book through the random recommendation, and have thrusted upon several people to read because I believe that more should read it.
But I very much hope that the author is currently writing more or will be writing more and I cannot wait. It is really nice to see some more fiction that has some roots inCeltic mythology.
This has been a really long winded review that really just ends with if you're skeptical about this book, give it a chance. If you like spooky stories with strong female characters and dead things, definitely read this book. If you're looking for a book to read to pass the time, read this book. Read this book and enjoy.
