*Take the TW seriously*

Paz Dario is someone who, unfortunately, I relate to in many different ways. I am mesmerized by Paz and his story, he deserves better and while I get the ‘if you do this, then I’ll also do this too’ line but it’s such a scary thing to say to someone in his situation and can be more harmful.

I hope the author gives himself a hug after this, as it must have been tough to write. Thank you for writing Paz’s story. I hope we hear more about him and he gets the help he needs.

Alano Rosa is someone who I wish had better parents who actively participated in his life. Throwing money at a problem doesn’t always stop it. Seeing the father micromanaging and trying to control everything around him is so heartbreaking.

His company seems to exist because he likes to micromanage everything. Alano deserves better and possibly some distance from his father to heal.

As an adult, I give this 5 stars but because this is marketed in the YA genre, the incredibly heavy talk of unaliving and detail about how makes me concerned as teens are more heavily influenced by media. The more graphic depictions of self harm and unaliving makes me concerned about giving teens ideas and inviting them down the rabbit hole especially to those sensitive to this.

This reminded me of 13 Reasons Why and how many psychologists warned against graphic depictions of unaliving.

That ending? Excuse me? Rude! But honestly, what else should I expect with a title like that and if fits with how Silvera writes, which I respect, but as a reader, it wasn’t nice. I’ll just sit here, in the dark, waiting for the next book.

I wanted to reach into the book and give these two boys a massive hug, take them out to pizza, and show them that life is tough, but the tough times are worth toughing out when you get to see the beauty in the little things.
