The Ballerinas by Rachel Kapelke-Dale

3.0

The author immerses the reader into what goes on when the curtain goes down, blisters, warts, misogyny and all.

I found myself more fascinated with the world of behind the scenes ballet than I did with many points of the plot. The slow narration and even slower forward motion of the story left much to be desired.

This book seemed to give a keen look not only into ballet and life as a female in this industry but the misogyny portrayed seemed metaphorical to what contemporary women face in almost any industry. Like light or no.

I give this book 3 stars because some may really love it and, even with all the downfalls I sound I couldn’t put the book down. I’m not so sure about the thriller aspect hitting the marks but the hint of thriller in there really did make the story readable and make me want to reach the end.

The characters are just unlikable in this book.
