The Lonely Hearts Book Club takes place in a small-town in Idaho where we meet Sloane, a librarian who lives a comfortable and predictable life.
One day, while working at the local library she meets Arthur, a lonely curmudgeon who is never short of insults toward Sloane and her fellow librarians.
After Arthur ends up in the hospital, Sloane takes it upon herself to take care of him despite his resistance. They quickly from an unexpected friendship and a book club with other lonely locals, all at different stages of life and grief.
This story is told in multiple POVs as each character finds solace and friendship in each other and each book that they read.
