I am DEEP in my fantasy romance era and it seems I will not be leaving it any time soon. I bought a month of Kindle Unlimited just to read this book - the books are somehow only on Kindle Unlimited right now, not Libby, which is a travesty - and it was truly well, well worth it. I'm a sucker for a Hunger Games-style competition, and this feels like a combination of the second arena in Catching Fire and Squid Games. It's brutal and violent and fascinating, and the world-building makes sense because it is pretty well-contained (and, as a girlie of the Twilight era, I love vampire worlds). Raihn is one of the best book boyfriends ever - he is kind and compassionate, he's worked very hard to maintain his humanity, and he takes such good care of Oraya - and the slow burn is truly, truly delicious. I love Oraya as a character, too. She is just so good and strong and feisty, and she rolls with the punches (sometimes literally). I really can't wait to dive into the next book in this series!
