The Bad Beginning
by Lemony Snicket
3.5
Okay I have to state this/rant, because this is an issue with quite a few audiobooks I have listened to and it's especially bad in this version I borrowed from the library. As well as books for kids/young adults in general. As a neurodivergent person with audiotory processing issues among other issues with sounds, this version is pure hell to listen to with all the f***ing annoying background noise. It was almost impossible for me to focus on the story. I do not need sounds to tell me they are chopping wood or on a beach or anything else when the text being read always states it, or random background music almost constantly. Likewise I don't need music in the background of the prologues/beginning of chapters either. it's an unnecessary feature ruining the experience of reading/hearing the book. I'm fine with music without reading on top of it, but combined it's horrible and usually it drowns the words being read. How can you neurotypical people enjoy this utter c**p?
That said I'll see if book 2 is just as awful with sounds and if that's the case, I'll dnf the audio book versions and possibly the entire series since my local library is utter rubbish when it comes to getting books in english. End of rant!
