I haven't loved a fictional young heroine this much since Scout Finch. This book was enchanting and well-paced. Calpurnia's relationship with her grandfather and the sense of wonder they share at the natural world reflects my own feelings and some favorite aspects of my relationships with my father and late grandfather. I expect I will read this book again, perhaps a handful of times in my life.
