challenging dark sad tense medium-paced

Overall this book nicely ties together this horrible murder with the religion, culture, and history that led up to it. There were some times in the last half of the book where I felt like it went very in-depth into tangentially related, but still interesting, history when I already got the idea it was expressing from a previous anecdote. As an ex-Mormon I found this to be very respectful in sharing why Mormons believe what they do while also not shying away from the messier history that I was told not to believe growing up in the church.
