Paradigm Lost by Hugh Taylor
1.0
This started with promise but I gave up about 1/3 of the way in. The core issue of this story was how AIs are treated by humans but I didn't find the AIs plausible. I kept thinking that doesn't make sense. We are told that every AI is equiped with a Sinclair chip which effectively makes sure they follow Asimov's laws - yet AIs serve in the Navy. One of the Navy's key tasks is to hunt down and stop pirates, with lethal force if necessary. Surely that would break Asimov's first law. We are also told that they are unemotional and logical, yet we are told that one got married - presumably because they fell in love with their spouse.
I wanted to like this but I kept being dragged out of the story by something that didn't make sense to me.
