Erotic Alien Romp
I was very surprised by this story I have listened to Ruby Dixon's Fireblood Dragons series which I enjoyed but this story was fantastic. TRIGGER WARNING I want to say the start of the story is very disturbing and very fast and includes human trafficking and gang rape. The story moves through it quickly but it definitely is incredibly detailed and realistic concerning the dire straights these captive women are in. These stories are usually pretty formulaic (I came to this after wanting this genre but needing a break from the pretty one note Laurann Dohner Cyborg Seduction series--I can only listen to so many Drax from Guardians of the Galaxy claiming/mating with a helpless Snow White style princess so many times before needing a break). And this story really won me over, the humor, great dialogue, fascinating world building, realistic discussions of the straight forward we are screwed how do we feel instead of hand waving or romanticizing dystopia. I really love the dual narration and it adds to the story. Hollie's voice took me a minute to get used to but really was helped by how she performed the dialogue and I found myself really enjoying all the distinct characters being established that do not feel like carbon copies. This does not feel rinse repeat and I immediately was looking up Ruby Dixon's reading order list for these series. This currently sits as my favorite Ruby Dixon so far and I look forward to the next. The sex scenes were fantastic, well written, and engaging. I also appreciate the female lead here is capable and truly independent where she can be, not simply laying back on a fainting couch. A delightful find and greatly enjoyed when you are in the mood for a mostly spicy alien romance with some laughs.
