Riley has big aspirations to become a Broadway director, and in order to do so she needs to be the director of her high school’s spring musical. But after taking her mom’s car without permission and driving to a concert, she’s grounded. And worst yet, she’s been punished to work at her dad’s game shop after school. Riley can’t waster her time working when she has a musical to save. She concocts a plan with Nathan, the gamer nerd who already works for her dad. Agreeing to flirt with him to inspire his gamer-girl crush into jealousy, Nathan will help cover Riley’s shifts.

This one isn’t quite a LitRPG, but plays heavily on the themes of TTRPGs simply because the MC’s dad owns a game store where D&D is played frequently. The tried and true trope of an ex wanting the MC back, and the MC pretending to have a new boyfriend leads to comedic antics and seriously cringe-worthy moments. The writing is flowing, if straightforward, and the characters are relatable. Overall a solid book, with nothing to dislike but also nothing to make it stand out.
