Brownies and Broomsticks by Bailey Cates
3.5
This is a re-read for me and I have read a lot of cozy mysteries since I read this last and I am now seeing a few things in this that I no longer love.
One is that I'm not a big fan of 'witch' cozies. The reason is that there are some things that the witches do to the non-witches (in this case, Cookie uses her witchy voice to get a suspect to talk to her) making it easy for them to get answers.
Also, I don't like how the author mixes real witchcraft with Hollywood witchcraft. They talk about Wicca and the Goddess and other things that are correct with the real practice of Wicca/Witchcraft/Paganism (which are all different things) and then also have powers. I'm not sure why it bothers me, just that it does.
