mawalker1962 's review for:
You and Yours
by Naomi Shihab Nye
Naomi Shahib Nye writes beautifully about cultural misunderstanding, international conflict and injustice, and the persistence of beauty in the world. So many beautiful poems in this book: "Our Time," "Why I Could Not Accept Your Invitation," "The Wreath That Eats Two Ice Cubes," "Frequent, Frequent Flyer," "My Perfect Stranger." So many apt lines.
From "Our Time":
We grew up proud of our country.
Forests of wonderful words to wander through--
freedom, indivisible.
Now my horse is lost in a sheen of lies."
From "Someone I Love":
It was the season of hiding from headlines.
From "The Story, Around the Corner":
Stories, wandering out,
having their own free lives?
