In 1985, in Colombia, a volcano erupted, the government ignored scientific warnings, and the death toll was over 23,000. In 1993, another eruption occurred; the death toll was much smaller, but the complacency of the government was the same. The story is fascinating. Told more like fiction than an actual occurrence.

Victoria Bruce has a degree in Geology and works as a filmmaker and science writer. Her plain language made this book and the science of volcanoes very easy to understand, for a non-science person like me. Science geeks would enjoy it too
