The Hurting Kind by Ada Limón

hopeful reflective medium-paced

3.5

I picked up this book as another book club option for my poetry book clubs. I think it offers accessibility, and I like the exploration of the interconnectedness of human and natural life, but it also doesn’t personally resonate with me in that “I will return to this over and over again” sort of way. Still, I enjoyed it.

Favorite poem by far: “A Good Story” (8)

Some favorite quotes:
“It is what we do in order to care for things, make them/ ourselves, our elders, our beloveds, our unborn./ But perhaps that is a lazy kind of love. Why/ can’t I just love the flower for being a flower?” (“In the Shadow” 9).

“I forget I am a woman walking alone and wave…” (“How We See Each Other” 57).
