I do love books with vampires and even though this didn’t quite hit the mark for me I still did enjoy it.

The Hunters Gambit is following Kazan a blacksmith who hasn’t had the best life. She’s seen violence and lost everyone around her at a young age and is left to fend for herself. She lies, cheats and does just about anything to get ahead.

Things become unstuck when she’s captured by Vampires and made their Queen only for it to be an elaborate way to kill her and use her blood.

I can’t quite put my finger on what just didn’t work for me. I liked the idea of the book all the subterfuge from the characters, the anger that is underpinned within. The court and political intrigue was also interesting but again wanted just a little more!  I think it was I just didn’t like Kazan at all. She wasn’t bad but I just she fell flat for me. I just wanted more from her I’m gutted too as she could have been an amazing character. She perked up more towards the end of the book but by then I just didn’t feel it was enough.

Reya and Adrius were definitely the highlight of the book and their characters were more fleshed out and I enjoyed the parts where they were the main focus. I fell they could have been explored more and their relationship with each other and with Kazan.

As I said there was nothing wrong with the book and I feel that so many will love it. So please give it a read and let me know your thoughts.
