Her Body and Other Parties by Carmen Maria Machado

4.0

This was a super cohesive collection. It was heady and dark and close and warm. It had just the right amount of folklore, mythology, and the urban legends we would tell as kids at sleepovers.

The only thing that kept this from a 5/5 isn't a reflection on Machado's craft or storytelling abilities, it was a personal thing. Some of these stories didn't click with me, which is fair, because they weren't written for me. Especially Heinous is a masterpiece of a novella, though, seriously.
