The Family Game by Catherine Steadman

This book was definitely entertaining but it was just an average mystery. It didn’t blow me away, but it was still pretty enjoyable. I think it’s kinda slow getting to the climax of the book and the ending was so quick, I wished the climax was drawn out a bit more so we got more exposition on Edward’s psyche. It just was kind of randomly thrown in at the end and I just wished there was more of that and less buildup. The amount of buildup caused the execution to be kind of underwhelming.

I loved listening to the audiobook. I liked that the author narrated it because she obviously knew how she wanted it to play out. The phone calls and tape readings were so vivid because of the audiobook production and I appreciated it so much.

Harriet’s interest in Edward’s father was kind of random and it wasn’t really resolved in any way. I don’t know what was going on there. Overall though this book was a solid standalone mystery.
