Return to the DallerGut Dream Department Store by Miye Lee

4.0

“Live in the present for the happiness you have now. Look forward to the future for happiness yet to come. And reflect on the past, for you only recognise happiness after it has passed.”

This book begins a year after the first one, with Penny eagerly awaiting her one year performance appraisal. Throughout the book, we see many familiar faces while also getting to know some of the important customers of the Dream Department Store. I loved getting to see some of the perspectives on dreams from the customers themselves, and the planning of a big event toward the end brought some whimsical fun to the book.

Where Lee really shines is the world building, and this book continued perfectly where the first left off in that regard. I never felt overwhelmed in not remembering some important aspect of the first book, and we also went quite a bit more deep into the magic of this world. If you enjoyed the first book in this (for now at least) duology, you should pick this one up soon!
