John Lewis: A Life
by David Greenberg
An excellent narrative of the life and times of John Lewis. Before reading it, I only knew the highlights of his life but this in depth biography pulled back the covers on what a great man he was. For one, I had no idea how instrumental he was in the creation of the National Museum of African American History and Culture. That could be a story itself.
The lasting impression is what a selfless person he was, never deviating from his principles despite much pressure to do so, particularly in the 60s. And once elected to office, there is no indication that he fell into the trap of the easy life that so many politicians choose of casting favors and reaping the benefits. We need many more like him.
That was my first book by this author. I will surely read another. So well researched and thorough. I highly recommend it.
