Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare
4.0
Okay. Emma is pretty kickass and she goes through a lot of clues to find out who her parents killers are. And of course at the end of the book she discovers it.
Ok...I love how we get to see a family of Shadow hunters working together to solve crime. It gave me all the feels. I wish Livv and Ty helped more in battle scenes.
So Julian is on the brink of making true love make him go insane. Just look how love ruined Malcom... was that a foreshadowing on what will happen to Julian? Ha! I doubt it, seeing as Cassandra Clare's writing is not that clever at times. But I sure hope it goes to that alley. I love when good characters go bad and right now we don't really have a clear villain.
Well if there was a villain it would be the Clave. Look Valentine was right to want to overthrow them, they are all assholes! Talking about "The law is hard but it's the law"
While the Blackthorns motto is "Bad law is no law" or some shit like that. It's obviously a rebel family.
I'm all for diversity but I truly believe that Cristina and her entire story line was not necessary. Like I did not give two crap about her and Perfect Diego.
Mark giving a spotlight to bisexuality. Yes! I loved that. Though his insta love for Cristina was random as fuck. Come on man.. you don't even know her. It's not even believable.
After all this weak ass clues we find out the family friend and Warlock killed Emma's parent and killed all those people all in the name of love. You can't even be that mad at him because he was screwed over by the Clave and his dumbass friends. Yes I'm talking to you Magnus Bane.
The entire book is on Emma and Julian unrequited love. They are Parabatai so they are not allowed to fall in love or they will be stripped of their marks which will potentially kill them. So of course they fall in love. The big twist is that Clave didn't tell them that parabatai that fall in love can have a bond that's so strong they can wield power like freaking warlocks and the power will make them go insane until they die. Of course the Clave didn't tell parabatai that because they are ASSHOLES!
I have this book a 4/5. Solid start of a series. Characters have a lot of potential for hero/villain tale.
P.S I was very annoyed with all the mention of Clary, Jace and the rest of their gang. I don't care about them! They had their series. Keep them hell out of this one!
