The Accidental Tourist
by Anne Tyler
This book was really well written. Anne Tyler is skilled at creating distinct settings and atmospheres. I admire her writing, although she could have really worked at her pace. The plot moved at a frustratingly slow speed, and most of the character development seemed to take place at the end of book, when I expected it in the middle.
Her characters were well written too. Macon's flaws were clearly portrayed as the novel progressed. It wasn't that he was unfeeling, but rather reserved. Not to mention confused and fearful. I liked Muriel too, although there were moments when I questioned her self-respect.
Overall, it was a good read. I especially liked the quote towards the end when Macon says that the greatest adventure is that of time.
