The Favourite by Alice Coldbreath
4.0
Boosted to 4 stars due to fave author status.
This had all the Alice Coldbreath goodness; smitten hero, strong yet innocent heroine, marriage of convenience, funny dialogue and awkwardly hot sex scenes, but it lacked quite a bit in story and felt overlong. There were about 20 sex scenes here, I think Alice might have finally exhausted this series and is just writing medieval porn, but it was still decent and made me laugh. The hero was so outrageous and extra but also a bit of a liar and slightly cruel, I’m not sure I liked him. Jane was nothing special and kind of an amalgamation of all of Coldbreath’s heroines. Overall kind of meh for this author, which is still pretty good considering.
Anyway, I wouldn’t recommend putting money in this one, grab it from a library if you’re a fan, skip if you aren’t. It’s too bad because I wanted to see this pairing and wished it had more story and romance.
3.5 stars rounded up because I always love this author.
