I genuinely have so much to say about this book but I don't have the words to describe how I feel. This book was probably one of the most frustrating, infuriating astounding books I have ever had the pleasure of reading. I both got so much information and none at all in this book. Let's just start of with the characters because that is the main focus of the book.
Libby Rhodes
Libby was fine for me. I neither liked or disliked her character. I found her gullible and a tad naïve but I didn't hate her. She was just kind of there. Yes as the story progressed, so did her abilities, but it was kind of just whatever. Her relationship with Nico was infuriating, like girl walk away. Simple as that, if you really disliked him the way you did, walk away from every conversation. the majority of the time, whenever they interacted, she just infuriated me. She kept letting EVERYONE get to her, especially Nico. When she got kidnapped I was like, oh something interesting is finally happening to her.
Nico de Varona
A handsome know it all. But he does have the advantage of having a friendship with Gideon that is definitely (at least what I want to happen) turning into a relationship. Cause the way he cares about him, come on, he loves him. I definitely DO NOT see what people are saying when they say Libby and Nico should be together. They are not enemies to lovers, they are enemies to friends. They have a good relationship but there is no spark or chemistry other than the fact that their powers are similar and the shared history between them.
Tristan Caine
His ability is freaking awesome, like he can see through everything! But I can also imagine how complicated that must make life. He is definitely a little timid but parading as this tough guy. The first to fall under Parisa's spell and not the last one. I felt it was so unnecessary for him to have slept with Libby, like it didn't feel like something real. I mean I know Parisa had some influence but I felt it was just like "okay...moving on..." I lowkey wanted him to be with Callum cause that relationship was interesting to see played out. I genuinely do not understand how he or ANYONE else did not see that Callum and Parisa were two sides of the same coin. Like damn Tristan, I'm sure if you slept with Callum you would've fallen under his spell as well...did they sleep together? Was that implied and flew over my head?
Reina Mora
A character that was there and didn't really contribute anything of value to the story. I mean, another character with a cool power but that was about it.
Parisa Kamali
Alright I get it, she is beautiful and everyone wants to sleep with her. I liked her character I just didn't like the CONSTANT thought that apparently everyone had that they thought she was beautiful and wanted to sleep with her. I thought she was really cunning and super interesting character. I did enjoy watching her interactions with Atlas because he was the only one that never fell for any of her charms and so they were on level ground with each other. Dalton is an idiot and I find their..."relationship" exhausting. I like Parisa but I am not on the Parisa love train. She was pretty effed up though making her die in Nico's head, not cool.
Callum Nova
The definition of a pretentious asshole. His ability was freaking wild, like I cannot imagine having that much power. He reminded me of the Purple Man from Jessica Jones. Did I like him? Sort of. I enjoyed his character as the antagonist of the group and I loved him and Parisa's "fight" like both of them were crazy awesome in it. I was praying and hoping him and Tristan would just bang it out but alas they did not...unless they did? Everyone in this book seems to be a little gay, like all of them are bisexuals'? Like that was the vibe I got.
As for the plot...really dont know what the hell is happening, but I am looking forward to reading the second one and more by the author.
4.5/5 highly recommend.
